Acupuncture

What to Expect

Acupuncture is one of the many techniques used by a physiotherapist as part of an integrated approach to treat both pain and inflammation. Pre-sterilised disposable needles of varying widths, length and material are used to penetrate the skin. At S-Physiotherapy we use specific acupuncture points to enhance the body’s ability to manage pain, reduce inflammation and increase its healing capacity, this in turn aids the recovery and promotes rehabilitation.

Acupuncture safely treats a wide range of common health problems by stimulating the brain and the spinal cord to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals such as endorphins, melatonin (promotes sleep) and serotonin (promotes well-being). Acupuncture assists the body’s natural healing progress and provides pain relief.

Some of the conditions that can be treated by acupuncture include:

  • Sports injuries
  • Back pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Whiplash
  • Neck pain
  • Knee pain
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Achilles tendinopathy
